Miles Morales from Spiderman / Cosplay by djluffystix
As a cosplayer, when you cosplay a certain character, people love you as that character so much, that they can’t stop talking about it.
For me, it’s Spider-Man characters. More specifically, Miles Morales. When I cosplay as Spider-Man, I love putting a smile on kids faces with my craziness lol. I wondered to myself “I wonder what these kids think of me when they see me as Spider-Man or in any of my other acosplays”
Well, a mom changed that for me when she posted this tweet about her son, Micah, wanting to become Miles Morales after seeing Into The Spider-Verse. I replied with a tweet of me as Miles taken by a photographer I know, and he loved it!
Afterwards, I thought to myself “I want to send him some Spider-Man toys and comics because of how awesome he is” and it didn’t stop there.
I met Caleb at a con in Arlington a couple of months ago, and he was too shy to go up to a cosplayer. When he saw me as Miles, I gained his trust. After that, he fell in love with Miles. He didn’t know much about Miles, but he loved him!
Months later, I decided to surprise him and another young Spidey fan with a Miles Morales Christmas gift box. I got them comics and few toys in them.
When Caleb saw me, he immediately gave me a big hug and a drawing he did of me. I loved it!
After all this, I was thinking “What do I call these awesome kids who love me as Miles?!” Well, I though “Spidey-Kids” would work. It’s still a work in progress, but these kids are awesome. I make sure that they are doing well with everything. I do forget sometimes to send them letters and gifts for their birthdays and whatnot, but I make up for it lol.
Whenever I receive a letter or drawing from a child about how awesome Spider-Man is, I make sure to put it on my wall. It shows that I’m making a difference in my own fun way. I have more cosplays coming, and whether if I’m cosplaying or not, I’m gonna continue to make a difference for a ton of people in life.
I’m glad to be a cosplayer and role model for kids like Caleb and many others. The world may be crazy right now, but as long as you can make a difference for someone, that a good thing
