This week’s re-edited photo comes courtesy of Jia-Li Cosplay cosplaying the Mutant, Jubilee from the X-Men franchise.
Born the daughter of prosperous Chinese immigrants, young Jubilation was sent to an exclusive Beverly Hills school, where her talent for gymnastics was discovered. Jubilee spent much of her time roller-blading with friends at the local mall, but ultimately ran afoul of mall security. Facing juvenile detention if caught, Jubilee panicked and first manifested her mutant ability to generate explosive energy. Soon after, her parents were mistakenly killed by hit-men.
2020 Edit Process
I started with the basic changes I always do, by adjusting the exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, HSL, and etc. Throughout this project of re-editing my older photos, I do not refer to the original edited the photo so I can see if I would make the same steps or make alternative decisions.
As you can see I change the aspect ratio of the image to give it a more focus on Jia-Li and give it a wider view of the scene/background.
Moving the photo into Photoshop, I next removed the metal join in the floor. This was a little tricky as the metal join crosses behing Jai-Li’s shoe, so using a combination of “Content-Aware Fill”, Stamp tool and Patch Tool to removing the metal join. In the end, I created a new layer of the shoe to go on top of the affected area.
The next step which was similar to the previous step was to remove the people in the background around the jacket area. On the image right side, I repeated the previous steps I did. For the people on the left side, I selected that area and just de-saturate the colours so it would blend a bit more in the background.
After skin smoothing and adding additional contouring, I felt the image was good enough. It’s interesting to see the 2016 photo the image seem to be slightly brighter in the background compared to the 2020 edited photo. I am very proud of both photos.
