Helping Hands from Labyrinth // Douglas from Terminator 2 // Cosplayer: pagsamiam  I’ve been a fan of Labyrinth, since VHS tapes. And I wanted to do this costume since the 2nd grade, but didn’t know how. I guess thanks to Flight of the Conchords and others cosplaying Bowie’s character, the idea came back! And with many events like movie screenings, renaisance fairs, and Halloween contests, I felt ready. Finding the supplies and putting it together, makes it so much fun. It was fun to see the final product, fall into place and I would keep going without sleep.  Terminator 2 is in my top 10 favorite movies. I’ve recently been watching movie reactions on YouTube. And those reacting to T2, along with myself, get pretty disgusted with the character Douglas, the abusive orderly at Pescadero hospital (who licks Sarah Connor’s face). I thinks he’s never been cosplayed before so I combined him with the T-1000, to make an easier reference. When I saw silver shiny, mini baking pie cups, they looked liked the T1000’s shot wounds. So I found the uniform of Douglas easily at the thrift store.  I added a metalic finger. Foil and steel tape is hard to work with, so I got thermal emergency blankets. The fold creases and wrinkles tighten up. Some people at Los Angeles Comic Con, said I was one of the twins which I believe is the story behind the actors who played the coffee vending machine guard. This week’s Cosplays We Like comes from Agatha Harkness from the WandaVision franchise. Agatha Harkness is a witch from Salem, Massachusetts, who was accused of practicing dark magic by her own coven during the Salem witch trials. Over three hundred years later, she sensed the presence of chaos magic radiating from the Westview Anomaly created by Wanda Maximoff. Unfazed by her thrall over the population of Westview, Harkness became obsessed with harnessing Maximoff’s magic. Living under the pretense of the WandaVision sitcom, she stole Ralph Bohner’s house and undertook the guise of Agnes, Maximoff’s “nosy neighbor,” all the while interfering with Maximoff’s idyllic paradise to her own benefit. After discovering that Maximoff was the Scarlet Witch, Harkness was defeated and stripped of her magical abilities, indefinitely condemned to live out her life as Agnes in Westview. We live in a world where social media likes and popularity are often seen as a measure of success. People strive to get more followers, likes, and comments on their posts in an effort to show that they have achieved something noteworthy. But I believe that focusing too much on these metrics can be detrimental. Rather than worrying about the number of people who like my content or how many followers I have, I focus instead on creating quality content for myself and others. That is what truly matters—not the number of “likes” or “follows” you receive from strangers online but rather the meaningful connections you make with those who actually appreciate your work. I recognise that there is value in having an engaged audience; however, it should never take precedence over creating genuine relationships with real people offline as well as online! It’s important to remember why we post our thoughts and ideas. Additionally, when our self-worth becomes dependent upon external validation such as social media likes/popularity, this can lead us down a dangerous path towards comparing ourselves constantly against other peoples’ successes which only serves to lower our self-esteem even further. Therefore, by shifting my focus away from numbers games associated with social media engagement, I am able to concentrate more fully on producing quality material. I have enjoyed seeing cosplayers who share my work and get the engagement of likes from their followers as it gives me a small victory that my work is liked and valued. Like this:Like Loading...
