A few weeks back, I saw a friend’s accounts got hacked and their account was used to send out messages without them knowing until it was too late.
This got me thinking about how secure are your social media accounts are? One of the best ways of securing your account is using a Two-factor authentication.
Two-factor authentication, or 2FA as it’s commonly abbreviated, adds an extra step to your basic log-in procedure. Without 2FA, you enter in your username and password, and then you’re done. The password is your single factor of authentication. The second factor makes your account more secure. This second authentication can be in the form of a random number generated confirmation, SMS/email message, app notification, etc.
I’ve put together a list of instructions from popular platforms and social media site on how to add two-factor authentication.
- Go to your profile and tap the “3 lines” icon, then tap Settings.
- Tap Security and then scroll down and tap Two-Factor Authentication.
- Switch on Authentication App, then tap Set Up Manually. If you don’t see the toggle switch, tap Get Started.
- Tap Copy Key below the Instagram key and paste it into your authentication app (example: Duo Mobile or Google Authenticator).
- Note: You should copy the key code to your clipboard, take a screenshot, or save it in some other way since you won’t be able to access the code again once you’ve finished setting up.
- After your Instagram account is linked to your authentication app, copy the 6-digit code your authentication app creates.
- Go back to the Instagram app, tap Next and paste the 6-digit code to complete the process on that device.

- Click the checkbox next to Authentication app.
- Read the overview instructions, then click Start.
- If prompted, enter your password and click Verify.
- You’ll be prompted to link your authentication app to your Twitter account by scanning a QR code.(If you don’t already have an app installed on your device, you’ll need to download one. You can use any time-based one time password (TOTP) authentication app like Google Authenticator, Authy, Duo Mobile, 1Password, etc.)
- After you scan the QR code, click Next.
- Enter the code generated by your authentication app, then click Verify.
- You’ll see a confirmation screen. Click Got it to finish setup.

- Go to your Security and Login Settings.
- Scroll down to Use two-factor authentication and click Edit.
- Choose the security method you want to add and follow the on-screen instructions.

Twitch
To begin set-up of two-factor authentication, the following is required:
- A verified Twitch account (your email tied to your Twitch account must be verified in order to enable 2FA)
- Access to a computer (2FA can only be enabled via desktop)
Once your account is verified and you’re ready to set-up 2FA:
- Head to your security settings page.
- Select Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Enter your Twitch password.
- Enter your phone number.
- Enter the verification code you receive via text message or the Authy app (if you are already an Authy user).

Google (E.g. Emails)
- Go to your Google Account.
- On the left navigation panel, click Security.
- On the Signing in to Google panel, click 2-Step Verification.
- Click Get started.
- Follow the steps on the screen.

Yahoo
- Sign in and go to your Account security page.
- Beside “Two-step verification,” click the Toggle button to turn it on.
- Enter your mobile number.
- Click Send SMS or Call me to get a verification code.
- Enter the verification code, then click Verify.
- If you access Yahoo Mail in third-party apps, click Create app passwords or click Skip for now.

Please note: Adding 2FA only makes your account more secure, not 100% secure. Please do follow other securing tips of changing passwords where possible and any other tip provided by your social media account.

Cosplayer: kuruvata / Photo drewcoremas
Toad is a timeless character. Both young and old love them, Toad was such a scene stealer in the almost recent Super Mario Bros Movie, and is one of the best characters to play/interact with in the game.
The costume is mostly made out of foam padding and felt fabric. Two materials I had never worked with before. The most challenging part is trying to glue everything down, make it stick, and keep its shape!
Almost everyone recognized Toad at New York Comic Con. I could barely get a few feet forward before getting asked for pictures. It was quite challenging and the inside does get hot despite the two fans I had inside.
My cosplay origin story started back in 2015 when a close friend invited me to my very first New York Comic Con. I had built a Bane costume out of cardboard and tubing. After seeing all the intricate cosplayers in attendance, I was inspired to also build my own.

Cosplayer: gata_fiera_cosplay
It was my first time going to NYCC so I didn’t know what to expect. I was especially concerned how my 9 month old son would react. A friend who is an OG at the con suggested we go Thursday or Sunday since those are the slower days. We went Thursday, the opening of NYCC. My son and I cosplayed as Chi Chi and little Gohan since I’m a huge fan of DBZ. I also made sure to choose easy comfortable cosplays so I could focus on the baby, unlike most I have that would typically require a handler.
His Gohan outfit made so many people happy. Especially at the Dragon Ball booths. He ended up taking a nap at the Dragon Ball panel. He was squealing and jumping at the new Daima trailer and then suddenly knocked out a minute later. I guess he wasn’t impressed lol. We would make sure to take plenty of breaks to get him out of the stroller. Otherwise, he would get fussy.
The show area had several booths that were carpeted which was perfect so we would just sit in a corner for a bit to rest. He almost crawled for the first time during one of those breaks! NYCC also has a designated spot on the first floor for kids activities. It was a very convenient area to rest and feed him. My son also wears a helmet so we put a Captain America decal wrap over it. The extra day we took him, he was Captain America to meet Chris Evans at his photo op. Chris loved his outfit! Overall it was one of my favorite cons. Seeing my son have so much fun even at 9 months old created unforgettable memories for me.
