Photo Projects – March 2019

This month I got to work with two fantastic cosplayers and their costumes. But also for me, this was the month where I attended my first comic con, MCM Birmingham.

In early March, Candyylocks and I took a trip to Uxbridge to shoot her Anti-Gwenom cosplay. We’ve been somewhat planning this for a while as at the time of arranging this, I was out of the job and Candyylocks was also had time on her time. We both wanted to find somewhere urban but I wanted to avoid Leake Street as I try and not repeat shooting in the same area too many times. Candyylocks found out another graffiti area in Uxbridge. So I packed my camera bag and off we went onto an adventure. You can read Candyylocks article on our adventure.

Here are some photos from the day.

Next up was shooting with Kitty Stormborn Cosplay shooting her Jessica Rabbit. There is a special reason why I wanted to shoot her Jessica Rabbit but I’ll save that for another day.

We both set out looking for a Jazz club to shoot in. I’m still not in a position to rig up a mock set for any of my ideas. So to find a place who are willing to allow me to shoot in, is always a good. Plus I love working ‘real’ environments like the Jazz club, where I can draw inspiration from.

At the time of writing this, I have yet to complete editing all the photos but I was able to complete this one photos to show the effect put into this porject.

MCM Birmingham was so much fun. I haven’t been to this event for a while as I missed out going in November. I really used this event to catch up with people whom I haven’t seen for a long time. I went at my own paced and didn’t go “chasing” people for photos. I really chilled out for this event. I felt really energise with the photos I took and hopefully get those photos to you guys as soon as possible. Here are a selection of selfies I took at MCM Birmingham.

The time has come and you can book your slot with me. Please read the instructions carefully. Please pick which day, and time slot and detail me the cosplay you’d like me to shoot. Please only book with me if you know what cosplay you want to shoot with me. If you do not declare your cosplay, I will cancel the appointment Pick a time that you can reasonably get to me. If on the day you are running late, I won’t be able to reschedule and you will forfeit your time slot as I do not want a knock-on effect of running late for my other appointments. If you pick more than one slot, I can choose which cosplay I like to shoot. This isn’t a reflection on your cosplay but I want to give everyone a chance to shoot with me at least once over the weekend.  Last thing, I won’t be accepting any group shoots as they affect my anxiety and can cause stress on me. Please note: I am not accepting any group shoots. I’ll consider a duo shoot. Should there be slots available after the first round, I’ll allow people to book me up for a second slot. If you miss out on a slot, do not worry, I’ll be at the event all three days so if you spot me, do come and stop me and we can get a quick photo together. Good luck and hopefully I’ll see you at Comic-Con. Like this:Like Loading... [...] Read more...

Cosplayer: kuruvata / Photo drewcoremas Toad is a timeless character. Both young and old love them, Toad was such a scene stealer in the almost recent Super Mario Bros Movie, and is one of the best characters to play/interact with in the game. The costume is mostly made out of foam padding and felt fabric. Two materials I had never worked with before. The most challenging part is trying to glue everything down, make it stick, and keep its shape! Almost everyone recognized Toad at New York Comic Con. I could barely get a few feet forward before getting asked for pictures. It was quite challenging and the inside does get hot despite the two fans I had inside. My cosplay origin story started back in 2015 when a close friend invited me to my very first New York Comic Con. I had built a Bane costume out of cardboard and tubing. After seeing all the intricate cosplayers in attendance, I was inspired to also build my own.  This story first appeared Cosplay In America and if you want to share a “Cosplay Stories” to be shared here on this website, full details can be found here.
