This write up is a bit embarrassing for me to write. One of my lens which I carry in my camera bag broke whilst I was on holiday.
The lens in question is my sigma 70-200mm zoom lens. This lens I only bought in the summer of 2018 but have grown to use the year I’ve had it in my camera bag. I’ve gotten so many lovely photos using this lens. I love how the photos compresses the surrounding background or captures that unique portrait shot from time to time.
Now that embarrassing part is that I broke my own lens. It wasn’t secure being rough with my bag, a passerby knocking over my lens or natural wear and tear. I accidentally forgot to zip up my bag which is a side open bag. When I picked it up and put it on my back, I head the/my lens hit the ground. The lens motors/gears do not function at all, which mean I am unable to use focus function.
I was very annoyed I broke my lens but it didn’t ruin too much of my holiday at the time at New York Comic Con as I had my prime 50mm which is very versatile and was able to carry on taking photos throughout the rest of my time at NYCC.
Going semi-gofundme
I have been thinking about going down the gofundme route to ask anyone who has enjoyed my work I’ve produced over the years to help either fund repairs or replacement for my lens. But I don’t like taking money for nothing as ultimately I know this was my fault.
So what I propose to do is if you want to donate but don’t want anything in return, then I thank you from the bottom of my heart. But if you like something in return for your money, here are what I’m offering if you donate and help me.
- First 15 people to donate £30 will get first access to my MCM London schedule in 2020. (Either May or October / One per person)
- £60 – a location shoot in London either in cosplay or fashion in 2020
- £100 – 2 outfit location shoots in London either in cosplay or fashion in 2020 (Limited to first five donations)
- £100 – studio session with me in Manchester in 2020. Can be cosplay, fashion or anything else. (Limited to the first two donations)
If you want to help me and have enjoyed the photos I’ve taken over the past seven years at comic cons, location shoots and studio shoots, and want to help donate, then you can help donate via the links below. *When donating, please let me know your Instagram, a preferred way to contact or message me on Instagram so I have a way to contact you.
I know we are entering uncertain times and also there are other causes which are more worthwhile, but I’ve always believed as a community we all look after each other in times of need.
I don’t expect all costs be covered by donations but if I reach my goal and have any spare money, I’ll invest any extra money into running of this website.
