My photography inspirations

It’s always super important to be able to have someone to look up to and draw inspiration in all walks of life. Whether it’s a young asian girl seeing an asian superhero (which we still don’t have), or seeing another Cosplayer of Colour standing tall and cosplaying white characters, we all need someone to look up to.

When I started photography I always looked up to my dad, he’s been taking photos since he was 15 years old and started a paper route to save up for his first camera. Then it became my brother who got into the London School of Fashion as a photographer on the strength of his portfolio alone and is now sponsored by the top brands in the industry. There’s also my youngest brother whose wildlife photography made it onto the cover of a magazine before he turned 15 years old. My brothers and my dad have introduced me to a bunch of amazing photographers who I use to help inspire and push my photography.

I’m writing this article to show you the people who are not cosplay photographers who have inspired me to push my photography further

Von Wong

Von Wong always tries to tell a story and tries to create images that look like they’ve been photoshopped. I follow his YouTube channel and watch videos on how he achieves the looks that he gets.

Irene Tudyk

I have been following Irene for a long, long time and I just love how she edits her portraits. I’ve used her editing tutorials to experiment with playing with different editing styles for myself. She also likes to challenge herself and go outside of her comfort zone like her recent dog shoot

Joel Sartore

I admire Joel for his abilities to capture subjects in a studio setting that are usually so challenging to shoot. I admire that he does it anyway despite how difficult it can be.

This adorable brother and sister grey gibbon pair are Frodo, 16 and Samwise, 14. Frodo is described by his keepers as temperamental and impatient; Sammy is very sweet, patient, and inquisitive. Sadly, this species is listed as endangered by IUCN and is not very common in US zoos. According to IUCN, the population has decreased by 50% over the past three generations. These gibbons are threatened by reduction of habitat as well hunting by humans for food, use in traditional medicines, and the illegal pet trade. There are now too few in professionally- managed human care to keep their population sustained in the U.S. Thankfully, the self described “small but mighty” @millerparkzoo, where Frodo and Samwise were photographed, keeps these special siblings with great care.

Lofty sunrise over #Argentina’s Red Lagoon, the heart of #TolarGrande. Regrettably I only had a single day here, a place you could spend a lifetime at and one I hope to see again someday.

Keith Ladzinski is one of the people who forces me to consider the environment when shooting cosplayers. They way he shoots landscapes are so interesting and really makes me think about how to incorporate it into my images

Cosplayer : djcroft_ Photo : mandragora_media I’ve always wanted to be Lara Croft because of how strong, confident, bold, and how fun she is as a character . My cosplay journey started back in 2016 when I was inspired to do a genderbend Lara Croft cosplay. I started learning how to make costumes out from scratch by watching others online make their cosplay from scratch from different material. My Lara Croft cosplay has dramatically increased from starting off with using cardboard to build the classic backpack and holsters to knowing how to work with eva foam, hand paint, other materials to make the backpack, holsters, boots, other accessories! I also have found new and better ways to build my costume pieces compared to the more simplistic why I used tk start out. Also from the character perspective my poses and facial expressions has evolved as well I pose better as Lara Croft now and have more of a variety of poses now compared to when I first started Cosplay has taught me that it’s okay to be myself and to love feeling like a badass in character. I used to get put down so much for simply being me and looking like me from my past and cosplay has shown me that I am awesome and I am good enough and I am not what happened to me in rhe past.  My definition of being successful in cosplay is when you actually start to realize you enjoy what you do. It’s not about the fame or followers count. It’s about feeling free and happiness and content with what you put out there and to inspire someone else to do the same thing you are doing? That speaks volumes! That to me is success! Cosplay shouldn’t feel like dreading work! It should feel like a fantasy world! The time has come and you can book your slot with me. Please read the instructions carefully. Please pick which day, and time slot and detail me the cosplay you’d like me to shoot. Please only book with me if you know what cosplay you want to shoot with me. If you do not declare your cosplay, I will cancel the appointment Pick a time that you can reasonably get to me. If on the day you are running late, I won’t be able to reschedule and you will forfeit your time slot as I do not want a knock-on effect of running late for my other appointments. If you pick more than one slot, I can choose which cosplay I like to shoot. This isn’t a reflection on your cosplay but I want to give everyone a chance to shoot with me at least once over the weekend.  Last thing, I won’t be accepting any group shoots as they affect my anxiety and can cause stress on me. Please note: I am not accepting any group shoots. I’ll consider a duo shoot. Should there be slots available after the first round, I’ll allow people to book me up for a second slot. If you miss out on a slot, do not worry, I’ll be at the event all three days so if you spot me, do come and stop me and we can get a quick photo together. Good luck and hopefully I’ll see you at Comic-Con. Like this:Like Loading... [...] Read more...
