The last 12 months with my camera

As another year has passed for me revolving around the sun, I tend to look back at the last 12 months and showcase some of my favourite photos I’ve taken. I’ll try and give any story or reasoning why I have highlighted these photos.

Purple Muffinz

What can I say about working with Purple Muffinz. I just love how she makes all her cosplay outfit out of latex and just make it just look amazing. As much latex has a sexual context, Purple Muffinz, just normalises the material and just makes the cosplay look like it comes straight out of the comic book world.

Hannah in Wonderland

During the 2021 lockdown, I got chatting to Hannah in Wonderland, who always loves working with me and we mentioned how we should shoot again as the last time we shot was the Aquaman and Mera shoot the previous year.

She wanted her Moria based on the American Horror Story franchise cosplay to be photographed and I knew of this studio called Sanctum Southampton, someone mentioned it to me and knew this place would work for this character. But to maximise the day, she also brought out The Suicide Squad version of Harley Quinn wearing the red dress and she looks amazing in it. Everything we did that day worked so well in this place.

Tank Space

I was invited by the group Celery Moon Design, Cosplay Choreo, LaPetitSpider and more to this fantastic place to shoot people underwater called Tank Space. This was a day I didn’t know what to expect and how to take photos in front of a massive “fish tank” but I had to learn on the day and adapt very quickly to changing situations. I hope to have another chance to shoot there again soon.

The other cosplayers featured are madcatkosmos and Kingwoods Cosplay.

Location shoot with Natashka Cosplay and Caelien

I love when people who I have worked with at a comic con, ask me to work with them again on location. Caelien messaged me to shoot with Natashka Cosplay their Ghost in the Shell cosplays and London was just the setting to shoot their cosplays. I have such fond memories of the franchise when I saw this as a young man and for them to offer this shoot to me, made me smile all day. There are more photos to come from his shoot so do keep an eye out for this on this website and social media.

Shang-Chi Film Premiere

I was very fortunate by the organiser to be invited to the film premiere of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and as part of that day, the cosplayers who were also invited to see this film, we did some quick photos in China town to show off the wonderful cosplays which feature in the film. Both DigiChi and Jesuisloserr did a grand job in their cosplay, capturing part of the film in themselves.

Meanwhile Festival

Another invite to a new festival in Coventry called Meanwhile Festival. This festival was a really nice way to get back to the normality of the comic con lifestyle and spent the day with EmberWolf and SinningWolf Cosplay as Cosplay Guests to the festival. I had such a fun time there reminding me what I love about being at a comic con.

Location shoot with Tricksy Spirit Cosplay

Answering a call for anyone who wanted to shoot with me over the summer months, Tricksy Spirit Cosplay answered the call and choose her Regency Aziraphale cosplay based off The Good Omens franchise written by Neil Gaiman. I love when cosplayers just go beyond the core material and create something more to the franchise.

EGX 2021

For the mini gamer that I am, EGX was an event I wasn’t too sure I would fit in or find many cosplayers at but as usual, I shouldn’t have worried. I met with some great people during my visit to the event and bumped friends whom I just haven’t seen even before the pandemic.

Featuring Teraana Cosplay, Demorafairy and Buttercupbunny Cosplay.

MCM London 2021

The biggest UK Comic-Con event of the year finally has come back to London, Excel Centre and I was so excited for this event, to meet up with my friends and new people. I just love meeting people and this event fulfils a lot of what I enjoy about life.

I had such a fun time, and it was a timely reminder of how much I love my hobby and was able to catch up with so many people and see everyone’s cosplay creation they made, over the three day weekend.

Featuring Hood Cosplay, Chanice Hird, Charlottewoolrych Cosplay, Twisted Sisters Cosplay, Mashapocalypse and Aimo Creative.

MCM Birmingham 2021

I have said this in previous articles and podcasts but found this event as a struggle with my covid anxiety and therefore, there was a delay to editing these photos as it brought bad feelings to me. I have since gotten over my feeling about the photos I took this day and looking forward to seeing people share the photos I have sent back to them.

Looking back at the photos over both MCM events in London and Birmingham, there are a few photos I now look back and think, “I should have done better” with my camera and not really get it right in post-editing. But this is all a learning experience I will always be on with this hobby.

Featuring Nayru Cosplay, ladyailla, Sugahfox, Bekz.xx.

MegaconLive Birmingham 2022

As I write this…..these photos have not been edited, but I have already selected the photos I wish to edit and looking forward to editing these photos when I get time between my full-time job and my social life. Here are some selfies I took from the event.

Birthday Studio Shoot at Montrose

For the last two birthdays, I’ve spent it in lockdown like so many people so I knew this year everything going well, I wanted to do something on my birthday. Therefore I started to plan to hire one of my favourite photo studios, Montrose Studio in Manchester and invite people whom I either enjoyed working with, haven’t shot in a long time or just wanted to work with more at a comic con just have such little time with.

One of the people invited Celery Moon Design, decided to challenge me and give me an impromptu lesson in ariel hoop and omg, that was something, it was both difficult and fun to do. Check out the videos and selfie I took on the day.

Thanks to Kev Pack, Shill Photography, Sugahfox, Harleychainsaw, jemzamia and Celery Moon Design, for spending the day with me on my birthday. I can’t wait to share some of the photos with your guys.

Looking forward to what the next 12 months around the sun will take me.

Cosplayer : djcroft_ Photo : mandragora_media I’ve always wanted to be Lara Croft because of how strong, confident, bold, and how fun she is as a character . My cosplay journey started back in 2016 when I was inspired to do a genderbend Lara Croft cosplay. I started learning how to make costumes out from scratch by watching others online make their cosplay from scratch from different material. My Lara Croft cosplay has dramatically increased from starting off with using cardboard to build the classic backpack and holsters to knowing how to work with eva foam, hand paint, other materials to make the backpack, holsters, boots, other accessories! I also have found new and better ways to build my costume pieces compared to the more simplistic why I used tk start out. Also from the character perspective my poses and facial expressions has evolved as well I pose better as Lara Croft now and have more of a variety of poses now compared to when I first started Cosplay has taught me that it’s okay to be myself and to love feeling like a badass in character. I used to get put down so much for simply being me and looking like me from my past and cosplay has shown me that I am awesome and I am good enough and I am not what happened to me in rhe past.  My definition of being successful in cosplay is when you actually start to realize you enjoy what you do. It’s not about the fame or followers count. It’s about feeling free and happiness and content with what you put out there and to inspire someone else to do the same thing you are doing? That speaks volumes! That to me is success! Cosplay shouldn’t feel like dreading work! It should feel like a fantasy world! The time has come and you can book your slot with me. Please read the instructions carefully. Please pick which day, and time slot and detail me the cosplay you’d like me to shoot. Please only book with me if you know what cosplay you want to shoot with me. If you do not declare your cosplay, I will cancel the appointment Pick a time that you can reasonably get to me. If on the day you are running late, I won’t be able to reschedule and you will forfeit your time slot as I do not want a knock-on effect of running late for my other appointments. If you pick more than one slot, I can choose which cosplay I like to shoot. This isn’t a reflection on your cosplay but I want to give everyone a chance to shoot with me at least once over the weekend.  Last thing, I won’t be accepting any group shoots as they affect my anxiety and can cause stress on me. Please note: I am not accepting any group shoots. I’ll consider a duo shoot. Should there be slots available after the first round, I’ll allow people to book me up for a second slot. If you miss out on a slot, do not worry, I’ll be at the event all three days so if you spot me, do come and stop me and we can get a quick photo together. Good luck and hopefully I’ll see you at Comic-Con. Like this:Like Loading... [...] Read more...
