Post Comic Con Etiquette (What to do when you receive your photos)

With comic-con London just finished I feel the need to write this article as I’ll know a few cosplayers who don’t know or realise what to do when cosplayers receive your photos back from photographers. I’m hoping this will help both cosplayers and photographers.

First of all, for the love that is all holy to the cosplay gods, do not edit the photos that you didn’t take yourself or add an Instagram filter over them. You have no idea what it feels like to pour time into a photo making into the style and look they think brings out the best in the photographer as well as the cosplayer, for someone to make changes that go against the initial vision. If there is something about the photo you don’t like or want to change, don’t ask as the cosplayer can make the changes but ask if the photographer is willing to make the changes first. That way, you give the photographer a chance to rectify the photo as the photographer might not know or notice initially.

Don’t forget to credit people involved when posting photos. Everyone wants to be credited for the hard work they put into the photo. Also, it helps drive exposure to others who might want to work with the cosplayer, photographer, prop maker, cosplay seamstress, etc. I know it’s not possible to credit all involved but do your best.

If you liked the photos you got back or enjoyed working with a cosplayer, do consider following them on social media, let them know you enjoyed your time working with each other. Don’t be afraid to ask if they are attending another comic con and see about booking their time for her next event. Everyone will have different comfort levels so if they aren’t being too responsive or don’t respond, don’t take it as negative feedback, you don’t know if they are busy and get lots of responses to get through or other situations which prevent them from responding back.

Maybe you’re in a position that you have got your photos back from a photographer, first of all not all photographers work at the same rate as others. Do first give a photographer time to go through the photos and process and edit photos. Personally, if you haven’t seen any photos from a photographer for over a month, just drop a courtesy message inquiring if they’ve had a chance to edit the photos. Many comic con photographers have day jobs so do all edits within their own personal time.

I hope some of these points have been insightful. If there are some I have missed out on, please feel free to comment below any tips you have.

This week’s Cosplays We Like comes from Princess Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog” franchise. Princess Tiana is a fictional character in Walt Disney Pictures’ 49th animated feature film, The Princess and the Frog (2009). She is depicted as a hardworking waitress who dreams of opening her own restaurant. Tiana is voiced by Anika Noni Rose as an adult and by Elizabeth M. Dampier as a child. The character is loosely based on two princesses: Princess Emma, the heroine of E. D. Baker’s 2002 novel The Frog Princess, and the princess from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale “The Frog Prince,” which inspired Baker’s novel. Tiana is also inspired by famed New Orleans chef Leah Chase. Tiana’s story revolves around her transformation into a frog after desperately kissing a prince who has been turned into one by an evil witch doctor. Throughout the film, she embarks on an adventure to break the spell and find true love. Tiana has been praised for her personality and values, but her depiction and that of her community have been criticized for lacking emphasis on racial issues. Who’s going to MCM London in October time?… It’s always exciting to know that I can get a pass from the comic con organisers. As some people know, I’ve been applying for press/creator passes for many years now and this event I have been fortunate to be granted a pass. Regarding uploading my photoshoot schedule, I need to plan out the schedule I want to offer to people who want to shoot with me. I plan to release it on my website on October 5th at 6 pm. Please Note : You’ll need to visit my website as social media will be slow to share the link. Hopefully, by then most people will know if they are going to MCM London and what their cosplay lineup is.  As always there are a few rules, please only book with me if you know what cosplay you want to shoot with me. Please pick a time that you can reasonably get to me. Also, I’ll need a way to contact you via any of your social media accounts, such as Instagram or Twitter. If you pick more than one slot, I have the choice to pick which one cosplay I like to shoot. This isn’t a reflection on your cosplay but I want to give everyone a chance to shoot with me at least once over the weekend.  I just want to also say that, all my slots for photoshoots are free of charge. The event organisers have rules which prevent anyone from charging their time at comic con regardless of whether they have a press/creator pass or have general entry, you should not give money in exchange for photos.  Taken from MCM / Reedpop Website I look forward to everyone’s cosplays they are submitting for me to shoot at MCM London Excel. I love to see what cosplays people have, poses to think of and possible locations to shoot people.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me via the contact page or any of my social media pages. See you guys soon. For more cosplay photos, visit our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook page Twitter Instagram Facebook WordPress Like this:Like Loading... [...] Read more...
