We wanted to write an article about the recent events of the covid-19 virus which is spreading around the world.
We don’t want to scare people when reading this article. At the time of writing this, this has only affected a very small percentage of the world’s population, and governments and events organisers are taking every step to either halt the spread or protect the public safety. The chances of contracting this covid-19 is highly unlikely and more likely to catch the common flu instead.
There are many arguments to either carry on and keep public events and gatherings going or as some events have done, and cancel/postpone. Regardless of how precautious event organisers are being, should you be going to an event, here are some advice you can take to avoid picking up any illness or flu which may be going around.
- Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
- Always wash your hands when you get home or into work
- Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
- Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
- Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
If you are not feeling well, regardless of illness, do not attend the event. We all joke about being “Patient Zero” but as well as infecting your comic con goers, your are potentially infecting the vulnerable and the elderly where their immune system isn’t as strong.
After the event
When you get back from an event and you are worried that you may have covid-19, first of all, do not panic. The covid-19 virus show similar symptoms to the common flu.

Again, at the time of writing this article, this isn’t affecting as much the young and healthy people, you should take as many precautions as possible not just the covid-19 virus but also any other flu’s that are about.
