I first discovered Emski Cosplays upon seeing her ridiculously good Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas (pictured below) and I’ve been following her ever since! Her wide variety of cosplays means there’s almost certainly something for everyone in her repertoire.

What inspired you to first start cosplaying?
I had always been vaguely aware that cosplay was a thing, but growing up in Devon far away from any big cons and not having any friends that were into similar things as me meant it just wasn’t something I had thought about much. When I moved to Essex, a friend of mine (Snickels Cosplay) suggested going to MCM London for the day and I was so excited. It was my first ever con and I knew I just had to cosplay. I’ve always been pretty obsessed with BioShock and so when I saw pictures of Monika Lee’s Little Sister cosplay, there was never any doubt. That had to be my first cosplay!

What would you say has been your most challenging build so far?
I guess that would have to be my Warrior Ariel! It was my first ever attempt at any kind of armour, and although it was far from perfect, I’m pretty proud of how it came out!

Do you have a dream cosplay you’d like to work towards? Has Ariel taught you any techniques that would help you with it?
I have two main dream cosplays and they both couldn’t be more different from each other. The first is Sarah’s ballgown from the dream sequence in The Labyrinth. It’s one of my all time favourite films and I just adore that dress and the whole scene. The second one is to one day make full Fem Shep armour from Mass Effect. Those games are so amazing and you get so involved with the characters. I remember having to take breaks from playing because I was finding it so stressful having to make decisions that affected my team! Fem Shep is just the ultimate badass to me and I love her. I hope I can use what I learnt from my Ariel armour as a starting point to one day make her!

Considering you work with lots of different mediums, would you say you prefer making fabric based cosplays or armour based ones?
I really do, I seem to jump around a lot from game cosplays to films to TV. I definitely prefer fabric based for the time being as I just feel more confident working with it. I’d love to be better at armour builds in the future though!
If you could go back in time and give newbie Emski one piece of advice, what would it be?
I’d probably tell myself to stop procrastinating and start working much earlier. I leave everything until the absolute last minute and end up getting myself so stressed out. I still do it now though to be fair.
