This week’s Re-Edit is cosplayed by GingerSnap Cosplay, cosplaying as Aloy from the Horizon Zero Dawn.
A Nora Brave, Seeker and machine hunter of unparalleled skill, Aloy is the genetic clone of 21st century roboticist and engineer Dr. Elisabet Sobeck. She was created by GAIA, the governing artificial intelligence of Zero Dawn, a global terraforming system that Sobeck had designed and whose implementation she had spearheaded, which restored life to Earth after its eradication by the Faro Plague. GAIA created Aloy for the purpose of stopping HADES, a rogue AI bent on reactivating the Faro Plague in order to wipe out life again.
2020 EDIT PROCESS
I started with the basic changes I always do, by adjusting the exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, HSL, and etc. Throughout this project of re-editing my older photos, I do not refer to the original edited photo so I can see if I would make the same steps or make alternative decisions.
I transferred the photo into Photoshop and on the right side of the picture is the image of the hotel building, so using “Context Aware” to remove the building out of sight.
The next thing I wanted to add was a creature from the game to look a bit more dynamic and involving. I did a search for creatures that are in the game and import it into the image. To make it look like it belongs in the photo, I used, Gaussian blur to give the effect of depth of field.
My last step was to applied the skin smoothering and contouring techniques I do in Photoshop.
COMPARING THE TWO PHOTOS
Looking between the two photos, the 2017 edited photo it’s more rotated to make it look more level whereas the 2021 edited gives the false illusion the cosplayer is “falling”.
I wish I added a bit more contrast to the 2021 edited photo, just to improve the details and depth of the photo.
Overall it’s hard to really decided which version I like most. If there is a version you prefer, drop a comment in the section below.
You can compare the two photos individually above or use the slider below to compare the two.
