This week’s Re-Edit is cosplayed by Goddamn Catwoman, cosplaying as ballgown Ariel, based off Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
Ariel was based on the title character of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid”. Ariel is the youngest of King Triton and Queen Athena’s seven daughters. She is often seen in the company of Flounder, her best friend, and Sebastian, her father’s advisor who is often assigned to keep an eye on her. Ariel has a fascination with the human world and often goes off to find human artifacts that she displays in a secret grotto.
2020 EDIT PROCESS
I started with the basic changes I always do, by adjusting the exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, HSL, and etc. Throughout this project of re-editing my older photos, I do not refer to the original edited the photo so I can see if I would make the same steps or make alternative decisions.
Next step, was to illiminate the whole photo more without going too far, blowing out the highlight, contrast and white balance. What I did was to make those adjustments but also, placed a Radial Filter around the cosplayer to balance out the photo.
I cropped into the photo, just to have a closer look around the cosplayer but also keep as much of the surrounding area in the photos as it was such a stunning backdrop. Also, I straighten up the photo as the photo look off-balance.
The last thing I did was to transfer the photo into Photoshop and apply the skin smothering and contouring I do for all photos like this.
Comparing the two photos, I really like the updated 2020 photo on many points. As previously mentioned in other posts, my earlier works, seem to be a lot darker and these re-edits are coming out a lot fresher to look at. I feel the balance of the photo look great and you can see the beautiful smile on the cosplayer.
Looking between the photos now, I would like to see if I can could tweak the temperture so it doesn’t look to orange/amber look to the photo and boast the colours more.
Check out the slider of the two photos to see the comparison.
