This week re-edited photo comes courtesy of Kisaki Cosplays as Fang from the Final Fantasy franchise.
Fang is introduced as a Gran Pulse l’Cie working with a division of the Sanctum’s military under unknown pretences. A strong woman surrounded by mysteries and driven by a personal agenda, Fang aims to complete her Focus to save her childhood friend from a fate worse than death.
I started with the basic changes I always do, by adjusting the exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, HSL, and etc. Throughout this project of re-editing my older photos, I do not refer to the original edited the photo so I can see if I would make the same steps or make alternative decisions.
The one major thing I wanted to improve from the original RAW photo, was to make the background area look like one whole wall and remove the trees, doors and any other distracting objects.
Once, I move the photo into Photoshop, I duplicated the image and make a cut out of the cosplayer so she was untouched. Then on the background layer, use content-aware fill to replace the lower section which is a tool within Photoshop, to fill in the area based on the surrounding area. After that, I used the clone stamp, to tidy up any mistake the content-aware fill didn’t get right.
The next step is to make the small touches I do in Photoshop like skin smoothing and contouring on her face.
Not many steps to how I wanted to edit this photo but it feels much better. Check out the slider to compare the two photos and see the difference in the two edits.
