It has finally arrived. 14 years ago, Disney Pixar released a superhero movie that became incredibly popular because it appealed to a lot of people. So much so, that with an obvious cliffhanger, many people have been asking, demanding and waiting patiently for a sequel to the first good family superhero movie that we have had *cough* Fox should really pay attention when it comes to Fantastic Four *cough*
Now it is here, The Incredibles 2 picks up literally straight after the first movie, where the family take on The Underminer, and from there, we are taken on a story revolving around a tech head who wants to bring back supers with the help of The Incredibles, or more specifically, Helen Parr/Elastigirl. This leaves Bob/Mr Incredible to be the stay at home figurehead to deal with Dash and his homework, Violet and her teenage issues and Jack-Jack and his developing powers.
This movie I feel was able to incorporate a lot of the fun from the first movie, but I also feel like even though it is set straight after the first movie the detail is a lot more sharper. As in the production team have taken their experience and applied it to this movie, which has helped with new chase scenes and action scenes. What I also like about this movie is that it also brought in brand new superheroes and has not just relied on their original cast but extended it which led to something that was missing from the first movie: fights with genuine super powered individuals, which were amazing.
One more thing that I genuinely loved about this movie is that it picked up on a lot of different messages for me. It took into account the rising trend of differing communities taking the lead, taking movies like Wonder Woman and Black Panther into account and giving more screen time to Elastigirl and Frozone compared to the first movie, and making Elastigirl the main protagonist for the movie. It also touched on the old adult models and how those times are changing, the family dynamic where its usually the mother who stays at home which now in modern times, is being flipped on its head, and now it is becoming more common to see the father at home.
Within the cosplay community, its clear how much The Incredibles has made an impact, because more often than not, you will see an incredibles family cosplay, which is amazing! But what you don’t see alot of is actual families cosplaying, you get the odd few, like I remember one of my first times going to comic con I saw a dad and a mum dressed as Han Solo and Princess Leia and their little one in the buggy was dressed as Chewbacca! I know you’re all picturing it, isn’t that the most cutest image!?
A lot of tv shows and movies are starting to have that family dynamic when it comes to the super hero genre and it would be great if we saw quite a few these happening! Just for the love of god, don’t do Fan4stic’s version! Like we can all agree that was just………I’m retching just thinking about it…
Right I’ve cleansed my pallet of that, so let’s finish off with a thumbs up for this movie and I can’t wait to see more family cosplays on the horizon.
