Frequently seen in group cosplays with other featured cosplayers (check out our past CotW articles to find out more), Gathering Storm Cosplay is no stranger to complex sewing projects. Whether it be a Disney princess, a member of the aristocracy or a badass superhero, Gathering Storm always pulls an amazing outfit out of the bag.

What inspired you to first start cosplaying?
I was inspired by a group of people on YouTube who made Harry Potter videos and lots of other nerdy content. After watching them when I was younger it made me want to have a go at making my own costumes and start going to comic con and ever since then I haven’t been able to stop!
What’s your favourite part of the costume making process?
I always enjoy sourcing the materials the most! I really love getting my samples and doing the research because I’m always most excited about a costume at this point.
What would you say has been your most challenging build so far?
I’d say my most challenging build would have to be Angelica Schuyler! I made the whole thing from scratch and it had sooo many elements to it! It took me two attempts to get it to a place I was happy with it and it’s the first ever historical piece of clothing I’ve made.
Do you have a dream cosplay you’d like to work towards? Has making Angelica taught you any techniques you’d use for this?
My dream cosplay would absolutely have to be a completely Disneyworld accurate Tiana gown! Making Angelica has taught me so much about sewing and garment construction so I’m sure it’ll help me when I eventually get around to making Tiana.
If you could go back and give newbie Gathering Storm any advice, what would it be?
My advice would definitely have to be “don’t buy wigs from the Halloween section in a costume shop”!
