So here we are, a movie that was branded as “The Star Wars story we didn’t ask for”. I can’t lie, there wasn’t much about this movie that I was looking forward to, admittedly not being a full on fan, I just wasn’t hyped for this. After viewing this movie though, I can say that I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I was going to.
The story of this movie revolves around probably one of the most charismatic and well loved characters from Star Wars lore, Han Solo, and depicts a origin story, detailing his early adventures, including his acquisition of the Millennium Falcon, how he met Chewbacca and other fun adventures. Now with regards to this movie, a lot of the focus for this movie was on its lead, Alden Ehrenreich and I personally think he put in a really good performance.
I feel like he was able to capture that charm and wit that has become synonymous with Harrison Ford’s performances in his time in the Star Wars Universe. I also really liked Woody Harrelson’s character of Beckett, it gives the view a chance to see the low key relationship that, although was short, was influential to Han’s character. Also good performances from Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover and Paul Bettany gave this movie quite a fun ride that was in that classic Star Wars spirit, but at the same time, like all the Star Wars entries, has its own identity.
The Star Wars cosplay scene, I personally feel, is one of absolute splendor, for the fact of how broad and wide the scope of the Star Wars Universe is. Between, movies, video games, tv shows, cartoons, prequels, side stories and the like, The Star Wars Universe is so incredibly huge, that as long as there is a recognised race within the universe, you could essentially create your own character.
That, in itself, is amazing. because of the openness of the Star Wars Universe, it gives cosplayers a chance to branch out in their creativity, and its amazing to see such wonderful ideas. I like the fact that the Star Wars movies will continue to make more opportunities for more character alterations and different kinds of cosplays for the years to come.
Can I just say, at the very least, you have to see this movie for the Kessel Run scene! IT IS IMMENSE!!!!!!
