Cosplayer of the Week: Kyashī

My favourite thing about this cosplayer is the sheer amount of variety she manages to churn out. From the badass Maya to the happy-go-lucky-if-a-little-crazy Harley Quinn, Kyashī brings a little bit of everything to the table, never wavering in quality.

Age: 22

Location: Surrey/Hampshire, UK

Favourite food: too many to count, pizza, nachos, sushi, ramen, cheese and crackers

What’s your favourite part of the costume making process?

Usually the first piece I make as it gives me my base and I can always come back to something if I have a little break from cosplay.

You also do boudoir modelling alongside your cosplay, how do you find they differ? Do you have any plans to merge the two?

The atmosphere and the general look you’re going for are polar opposites and sometimes that can be difficult to remember when you’re getting photos taken. But I do enjoy the difference. They’re both fun in their own ways. At this moment in time I don’t plan to merge the two. Mainly as I’d prefer to do a cosplay of a character who was designed for the sexy look rather than forcefully making them that way.

Do you have a cosplayer you look up to or someone who inspires you?

I have a few as they all inspire me in different ways. Kamui Cosplay for their skill and helpful tutorials. Moderately Okay Cosplay for his admirable attitude to fans. Jinxy Dragon Cosplay for her devotion to cosplay and big prop builds. Nettle Cosplay and Bendy Benz cosplay on their sewing skills. Candy Valentina for creating a business from her hobby. Myself because if I didn’t believe in myself I wouldn’t be cosplaying.

Do you have a dream cosplay that you’re building up to?

At the moment, Moira from Overwatch. It’ll test all different types of skills to get her finished and so I’ll have to take my time with her. She’s my dream cosplay until I complete her, then I’m sure I’ll find another crazy cosplay idea to build!

If you could go back in time and give one piece of advice to newbie Kyashī, what would it be?

Don’t focus on the business side of it before you’re ready. And even when you do, don’t forget to have fun.

Dr Harleen Quinzel.
