Cosplayer of the Week: KuroTsuki

Here’s another fantastic cosplayer sent in by someone who recommended that we should feature her. As soon as we saw her page we knew she was a must for Cosplayer of the Week. It helps that one of the admin is bias to some of her costume choices. KuroTsuki is beautiful and talented and needs to be recognised for the talented cosplayer she is!

Age: 23

Location: Seattle, WA

Firstly, I love your RWBY cosplays (I’m a huge RWBY fan and I cosplay Yang) so a character question? Why Blake and Weiss? Who else in RWBY Would you like to cosplay?

I love RWBY too!! When I watched the first season, I was really interested in Weiss and Blake, at first we learn very little about them in the start of season one. As they got to season two and three I loved how they unraveled their story. Weiss grew so much from season one until season three. Learning about Blake’s past made me relate a bit with myself. Also the character designs are pretty. When I cosplay a character there is always something that I relate to them.

I would love to cosplay Raven next. When she first made her enterance I was blown away how badass she was. I can’t wait to see her back story!!!

When you put your costumes together which is you favourite part of the process? Why?

My favourite part is the finish line. When all the components of the outfit is done. The wig styled and having the right contacts. Are all finished and sitting right in front of you. That sigh of relief to know that you can finally wear it to a con or a shoot!!

You’ve used a large variety of techniques in your costumes, which method has been your favourite to learn and which has been the hardest?

So far, I have learned to love using black worbla. Making props and armor has been a great challenge and learning experience. Favorite technique or trick/tip would be using needles to poke out the air bubbles out of worbla when you are appling to foam. The hardest part I guess would be patterning, hahhaha mainly because I am sometimes not patient with cutting out a pattern and trying it on before cutting the foam. RIP lol

You have some beautiful photos of your cosplay. Do you feel it’s important to get nice photos? Why?

Yes!! When working so hard on your cosplays I believe you should be able to show case one or two really nice pictures! Plus when trying to get nice photos you think more about the poses and angles and it becomes second nature after a while. Helps alot when people stop you for photos lol

What advice would you give to new cosplayers?

Cosplay is a really fun hobby that anyone can take up. How you start shouldn’t matter, if you buy or make your costume, in the end you are cosplaying. Represent the crazy anime culture that we love. You can cosplay whoever you want and don’t let anyone discourage you in anyway form.
