Cosplayer of the Week: Soffel Cosplay

Soffel Cosplay is a cosplayer that some of the staff members (namely Anna because she loves German cosplayers) has been following for a while. Her cosplays are just so spot on and her photos just compliment her craftsmanship so well! Not only is she an accomplished cosplayer but somehow she finds the time to be a member of the Cohaku team!

Age: 25

Location: Germany

What is your favourite food? I LOVE Juwetzi and Moussaka. My mother lived in Greece for a while, so I’m used to eat a lot of greek food.

Your costumes are always so clean and on point, what is the most important part of cosplay to you?

I try to be accurate with every detail of the design from the beginning. If you manage to plan your costume right with colors, pattern, lenght etc it’s a lot easier to accomplish your goal and be satisfied with your costume.

You are an editor of Cohaku magazine, have you found that being part of this magazine has changed the way you cosplay or how you view cosplay? If so how?

I have been cosplaying for over 10 years now and new techniques are still everywhere! It’s amazing to see all the cosplayers with different ideas and how they work on their costumes. I guess being part of the Cohaku team shows me even more the variety of cosplay

I was looking at your progress and painting for your Cele gown where you painted on a bunch of details. What did you do to make sure that you got the details in the right place and the right size? And how long did it take?

To be honest, I never worked so precise on the painting. At first, I sketched everything on a piece of paper to see where I wanted all the emblems more or less to be. After that I made my own stencils like the roses or different frames, because I wanted to have the same pattern for it. Everything else was freestyle. In the process of painting I realized where I wanted more roses or other symbols and everything just came together like this. The whole process took me 4-5 days, but I love handpainting. If I could, I won’t do anything else haha

You have done a huge variety of beautiful costumes. Which has been the most fun one for you to make?

Celes, because of the painting and all the details, but I also loved working on Aerith. Everything went like expected, so it was more fun this way.

If you could go back in time and talk to newbie Soffel what would you say?

“You will not believe how many great people you will meet and what are you able to accomplish thanks to this hobby. Keep going, you’re doing the right thing.”
