Cosplayer of the Week: Auzzie L

I had the pleasure of meeting Auzzie L when I went out to Calgary last year. He’s such a talented cosplayer who just really loves to have fun in cosplay. So much so that it comes across in his cosplays!

Age: 20

Location: Calgary, Canada

Favorite food: Anything that involves chicken and Korean BBQ

When you put your costumes together which is you favourite part of the process? Why?

My favorite part of creating a costume is probably the detailing and the weathering. I like making costumes gritty and worn, so doing that gives me a lot of satisfaction when I get the look right and it allows me to experiment with different techniques.

So your battle bunny riven, how did that come about?

Well…. My Battle Bunny Riven…. I actually started off doing Battle Bunny EZREAL, which started off as a joke among friends that I took to another step.

So, I guess Riven was going to come to me eventually, not to mention I’ve done one other crossplay so I think shame just goes out the window.

You’ve cosplayed a lot of assassins, what is it about the assassins that appeals to you?

I’ve been doing more League as of late, but Assassin’s Creed dates back to the two years I’ve been cosplaying for. It’s really the “ominous hooded man of mystery” look that I have a real soft spot for. It’s a look that never gets old for me.

You’ve started going into cosplay photography etc, what is your inspiration to start photography?

As much as I enjoy cosplaying and being in front of a camera, I like to be behind one as well. I study film in university, so I’ve always had an appreciation for frames and images, not to mention a lot of my friends are great photographers who I look up to quite a bit.

To you, what is the most important thing for you to acheive in cosplay? why? (e.g. portraying character, having fun, photos?)

I’d say the most important thing about cosplaying for me personally, is to have as much fun as you possibly can while you’re making the costume, wearing it, and after. I mean, it’s not a hobby if you’re not having fun, right?

What advice would you give to new cosplayers?

A simple bit of advice: Meet people. You’re going to run into very colorful people that you’re gonna wanna make friends with. I know I have, and it’s changed my life.
