You have made a huge variety of costumes and props, what have you found is your favourite material to work with and why?

I work with different materials depending on what the costume calls for. I use worbla’s finest art for any sort of armor, custom jewelry, or weapons and it’s excellent for any thing I can’t do with fabric. And I really like working with knit and stretch fabrics just because they are so comfortable to wear.

When you started planning Hawkgirl, what made you decide you wanted collapsible wings and how did you go about actually making them?

When I planned hawk girl I wanted collapsible wings so I could walk through the crowded convention halls easier. They would also be easier to store and travel with. But look great when expanded for photos. I made the frame out of wooden dowels and took lots of trial and error to get them to fold properly. The feathers are foam so it’s all very lightweight. I made an entire tutorial on how I made it on my YouTube channel.

Honey Lemon (Big Hero 6) is fantastic, what sort of a response did you get when you wore her, especially from kids?

Kids love my Honey Lemon. Parents love it too, since their children are so excited to see a character they like. One day, when I wore super Honey Lemon to San Diego comic con 2015, I was walking down the street (not even inside the convention center) and this little girl ran up to me, grabbed my leg and literally dragged me over to her mother to take a picture. It was a great moment and I love seeing people react to seeing their favorite characters brought to life.

If you could go back to when you first cosplayed, what would you tell yourself?

I started cosplaying in middle school. So I didn’t really have a real plan or know what I was doing. I was just making costumes and having fun. But I guess I would tell my self to keep pushing myself to try new things and keep getting better and better. Everything takes practice and isn’t always perfect when you just begin.
